Fundamentally, he argues, we all have an internal compass that lets us know what's right and what's wrong. But amid the complex and very real pressures that prevail in the business world of today, it is easy to compromise that inner voice, especially when others are ignoring or distorting theirs.

Huntsman argues that successful leaders welcome challenge because it creates an environment where their qualities can be experienced as powerful and consistent, both by themselves and by others. Respect for such leaders is earned 'the old fashioned way'. A crisis, he says, creates the opportunity to rise to levels of confidence, strength and resolve that otherwise would not be available. Through adversity, we come face to face with what we stand for and what really counts.
